Product Description

In 1977, at the age of 3, a joy-filled girl named Peyton Goddard was certified for special education with a label of severe disorder of language; there she spent the next two decades in the most restrictive environments.  While in this setting, she was given more labels: multiply handicapped, severely handicapped, mentally retarded, autistic.  In this setting, she lost her joy.

In March of 1997, she began using the Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) strategy of Facilitated Communication.

In the fall of 1998, she began an academic education for the first time, at Cuyamaca Community College in California.  In June of 2002, Peyton graduated from Cuyamaca College with her associate of arts degree in general studies.  She achieved a 4.0 overall GPA, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the two-year colleges, and was the valedictorian for the graduating class of 2002.

Peyton continues to take classes at Cuyamaca College, and plans to continue her education at a university; for now, she is concentrating on finishing a book and continuing to share her story.

"...This remarkable [film] highlights Peyton's vision for a just world.  Share it with students, families, organizations, and friends.  It's a MUST SEE if you wish to understand and support inclusion and peace for all people." -Anne Donnellan, Ph.D., Director, University of San Diego Autism Institute
